NFL Free Agency

NFL Free Agency

Category : Quick Tips

The NFL Free Agency is a period of time (beginning March 3) in which ‘free agents’ can move from team to team without compensation. This period officially finishes on April 21. A ‘free agent’ (by NFLPA definition) is “a player who is not under contract and is free to negotiate and sign a Player Contract with any NFL Club, without Draft Choice Compensation or any Right of First Refusal.”

A player can be a ‘restricted’ or ‘unrestricted’ free agent. Players become ‘restricted’ free agents when they have accrued 3 years (and their contract expires). Unrestricted free agency happens when the players has accrued 4 or more years and their contract has expired. The definition for ‘accrued’ by the NFL is “Six or more regular-season games on a club’s active/inactive, reserved-injured or physically unable to perform lists.

For a team that ranked h in points allowed and yards allowed last season, the Colts really haven’t done much to address the defense. The only outside defensive free agent they’ve brought in since the start of the league year is defensive end Denico Autry , who has 10.5 career sacks in four NFL seasons.
